Wikipedia's definition of prayer...
Prayer is a form of religious practice that seeks to activate a volitional connection to some greater power in the universe through deliberate intentional practice. Prayer may be either individual or communal and take place in public or in private. It may involve the use of words, song, or complete silence. When language is used, prayer may take the form of a hymn, incantation, formal creedal statement, or a spontaneous utterance in the praying person. There are different forms of prayer such as petitionary prayer, prayers of supplication, thanksgiving, worship and praise. Prayer may be directed towards a, deity spirit, deceased person, or lofty idea, for the purpose of worshiping, requesting guidance assistance, confessing sins or to express one's thoughts and emotions. Thus, people pray for many reasons such as personal benefit or for the sake of others. Prayer involves that acknowledgment that only comes from one who is sincere.
Feeling unwell or being down in the dumps more often than you need to be is a definite sign that something is very wrong. No matter how much you try you cannot shake it off or improve in well being. Some days are better than others but it never really goes completely.
God is a spirit and He dwells in us, it is like you walk into a dark room, you know that there is light in the room because there is always a light bulb in any room. All you need to do is find the switch and put it on. For those who are familiar with the room they won't need to look for it, they will know exactly where to go to switch it on, even though they cannot see. The seeking of the switch is prayer, switching it on is faith, the light is the Spirit of God already in us being activated, and the rooms are us. Some rooms may be cluttered with abandoned prayers, neglected due to lack of faith, and in the course of making our way to the switch we may find ourselves stumbling. Or in the course of trying to pray, our flesh motivated by free will reminds us of prayers that have not been answered. But if God is in you, no place is ever completely dark you eyes adjust to the darkness, allowing you to make your way around those abandoned prayers towards the switch. Constant prayers to God are never wasted...it requires perseverance which still requires faith.
There are times that we may need to pray for faith before praying for what we need. The truth is we cannot get anything from God without believing in him.
Because of the curse placed on us as a result of the first sin we are in a dimension that is not conducive for us and we need to move into a dimension that favors us, the dimension that God is in.
So for those of us who are in spiritual prison, we can be rest assured that God is with us, pray that God should remove all weaknesses, because the curse placed on us ensures that we are kept imprisoned.
